Laparoscopic Gastric By-Pass

Gastric bypass is surgery is one of the most commonly performed Bariatric Surgery. Gastric bypass is also called The “Roux-en-Y gastric bypass” (RYGB) & believed to be the “gold standard” for weight loss surgery by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the National Institutes of Health.

Dr Randeep Wadhawan has experience of performing large volume of Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass routinely with his multidisciplinary team caring for patients. As a result, complication rates are negligible, and weight loss rates are high. The Gastric By Pass Surgery is performed laparoscopically which involves making five tiny incisions in the abdomen through which instruments connected to a video camera and surgical tools are inserted. A small stomach pouch is created, this small pouch restricts food intake. Then, a section of the small intestine is cut & attached to the small stomach pouch allowing food to bypass the lower stomach. By restricting food intake and by decreasing the absorption of food by excluding most of the stomach, duodenum, and upper intestine from contact with food & by re-routing food directly from the pouch into the small intestine, this procedure shown significantly good results in reducing the weight of obese patients In this procedure the food is bypassed through a newly created channel & reduces the amount of calories and nutrients the body absorbs. It has been seen that with Gastric Bypass Surgery, Type 2 Diabetes is resolved in 84% of patients, High Blood Pressure – Resolved in 75% of patients & High Cholesterol – Improved in 95% of patients.
