The inflammation of the appendix is called appendicitis. An appendix is 3 1/2-inch-long tube of tissue extending from the large intestine. Appendix is a vestigeal apparatus and one can live even if appendix is removed from body, without apparent consequences.

In case of Appendicitis, one needs to go for immediate Laparoscopic Surgery to remove the appendix & it is considered a medical emergency. If it is not treated timely, it can lead to inflammation & eventually burst or perforate and spills infectious materials into the abdominal cavity, resulting in peritonitis which, if not treated quickly with strong antibiotics can be fatal to patient’s life.
